Konturen

1100 A4-sheets, 500 tacks, text (500 copies of the text “Konturen” stacked in three piles)
Galleri Fisk, Bergen 2016

The sculpture “Konturen” consists of approximately 500 copies of the text “Konturen” stacked on top of each other in three piles. The tacks in the corner of each text give the stacks the curved shape – every tack takes up a tiny bit of space, but the effect becomes very visible when accumulating the amount of texts.

The text is based on the notion of dissolution of language. It tries so hard to be specific and precise that it ends up becoming absurd and incomprehensible. Through language that looks descriptive and objective, the text examines the most simple shape, a circle, that is called “figur 1”. It is dealing with how the circle is supposed to be understood as relationship between shape and material, but since the language turns out be inadequate and hard to make sense of, the images take over in an attempt to explain the language.

The text sculpture was part of the solo exhibition “•” together with two other pieces “Konturen (figur 2)” and “Waste container”.
